Title 250 Department of Environmental Management
Chapter 90 Marine Fisheries
Subchapter 00 N/A
Part 7 Dealers
Type of Filing Amendment
Regulation Status Inactive
Effective 04/30/2023 to 11/20/2023

Regulation Authority:

Title 20
Chapters 42-17.1
42-17.6
and 42-17.7
and in accordance with Chapter 42-35-18(b)(5)
Administrative Procedures Act of the Rhode Island General Laws of 1956
as amended.

Purpose and Reason:

1.      Proposal #1 (Division proposal):  Amend dealer reporting frequency of striped bass landings from “each week on Mondays and Thursdays, are due no more than five (5) days after the date of purchase within 24 hours after the date of purchase” to no more than twenty four (24) hours after the date of purchase”

Rationale:  More frequent reporting is necessary to better manage the fishery and overharvest.  Overharvest occurs frequently due to late reporting resulting in quota reductions in the following year to offset the overharvest
